The business is closing because the present owner wishes to retire, but there is high demand for many of the products the Trading Company sells.
Next door is an award-winning butcher?s shop, and there are many cafes, restaurants, shops and services within a one-block radius.
ABOUT LADYSMITH - A VIBRANT COMMUNITY
Harrowsmith magazine has named Ladysmith ?one of the prettiest towns in Canada.? Perched above a picturesque harbour, the Town is an ideal base for exploring the Gulf Islands by boat or kayak, hiking in the rugged backcountry, swimming, biking, or visiting the Cowichan Valley?s excellent restaurants and wineries.
With a population of around 8,000 and growing, Ladysmith is famous for its community spirit. Annual festivities include an International Strongman Competition, Paddlefest, Winter Festival of Lights, Arts on the Avenue, quilting shows, a summer concert series? and in 2007, Ladysmith entered the Guinness Book of Records for holding the world?s biggest street hockey competition.
Ladysmith?s economic outlook is bright. The Town is proactive in encouraging and supporting local business and industry, and issued twice as many business licenses in 2006 than in 2000, a key growth indicator. Future plans include comprehensive development of the town?s beautiful waterfront; the adoption of an area Heritage Plan to preserve and enhance the historic downtown; and raising the town?s profile as a beautiful tourism destination.
The privately owned Ladysmith Marina is undergoing a substantial expansion, and Ladysmith native Pamela ?Baywatch? Anderson is rumoured to be considering building a new marina and townhouse community on her local waterfront estate to the south.
